What we collect

Nothing. PulseLAN doesn’t require an account, doesn’t run analytics, and doesn’t track you. We have no server that receives or stores information about you or your devices.

Local data

Your test history and settings are stored only on your own device. The app itself never accesses, collects, or transmits this data. On Android, PulseLAN’s app data is excluded from Android’s OS backups. On iOS, your own device’s backup (iCloud or local) may include app data as part of Apple’s standard backup behavior — that stays entirely under your control, and you can remove it at any time by deleting the app.

Permissions

• Camera — used only to scan a QR code to connect to a PulseLAN server on your network. No photos or video are stored or transmitted.
• Local network — used to discover PulseLAN servers and other devices visible on your network, to run tests against them, and to probe an address you choose with the ping and packet-loss monitor. What is found stays on your device.
• Notifications — used only to tell you about the status of a PulseLAN server (for example, when it starts or stops).

Test traffic

The data sent during a LAN speed test flows only between your own devices, over your own local network. It never travels over the internet and never reaches us. Device discovery is the same — it only ever looks at your own network — and scheduled monitoring stays local whenever the test it repeats is a local one.

The ping and packet-loss monitor goes wherever you point it. Most people use it on their own router or another device on their network, and it starts out suggesting Cloudflare’s public 1.1.1.1 resolver so it has something useful to measure out of the box — that address is on the internet, not on your network. The address is shown on screen before you start, it is editable, and nothing is sent anywhere until you press Start. Whatever host you choose sees a connection from your network the same way it would from any other client; we receive nothing either way, and the results stay on your device.

The other test that leaves your network is the optional internet speed test. Measuring an internet connection requires sending traffic over it, so that test contacts Cloudflare’s public speed-test endpoints and its traffic leaves your local network. Cloudflare receives that connection as it would any other visitor’s, subject to its own practices; we are not a party to it and receive nothing. PulseLAN asks for your consent before the first run and does not run this test until you agree. Its results, like all others, are stored only on your device.

To tell you whether your LAN or your ISP is the limiting factor, PulseLAN compares an internet result against a LAN result already stored on your device. That comparison happens entirely on your device. It decides the two results belong to the same network by checking whether the local addresses share the same /24 range — a rough proxy, not a recognition of your network, and nothing about your network is sent anywhere.

Ads

There are no ads in this version of PulseLAN. If a future version introduces ads, we will update this policy first, before that change takes effect.
