Why we built PulseLAN

Every "speed test" most people run measures their internet connection — the path to a distant server across their ISP. But the speed that decides how fast a file copies to your NAS, how smoothly a 4K movie streams from one room to another, or how quickly a backup finishes is your local network speed: device to device, inside your own home. That number is almost never measured, and when a transfer is slow, most people have no idea whether the bottleneck is their Wi-Fi, a cable, a switch, or the drive itself.

PulseLAN measures that local path directly. Any device on your network can act as the test server; any browser on the LAN can be the client. It reports download, upload, ping, and jitter for the connection you actually use every day.

Privacy by design

PulseLAN was built privacy-first: no accounts, no sign-ups, and no analytics in the app. Local test traffic never leaves your LAN. The only feature that touches the internet is the optional internet speed test, and it asks for consent before it runs.

Our guides

Alongside the app we publish an ongoing library of home-networking guides — how to test local speed, the difference between Ethernet and Wi-Fi, how to fix bufferbloat, and more. Every guide is written to stand on its own and be useful whether or not you ever install the app.

Who is behind it

PulseLAN is developed and operated by Covenant Media LLC. We write our guides from established networking practice, use realistic figures, and clearly label estimates. Where results depend on your specific hardware, ISP, or local conditions, we say so rather than over-promise.
